Physical Education

Physical Education at Maramba

Students at Maramba participate in weekly Physical Education lessons in both indoor and outdoor environments. We offer a comprehensive program, incorporating all areas of Physical Education. At Maramba, we have impressive facilities and grounds, along with a wide-ranging assortment of equipment and resources. Each student is encouraged to participate in all activities striving for their best individual achievement.

Our Program

At Maramba, we aim to develop students’ fundamental motor skills, their fitness, team-work and above all, develop a love for a healthy lifestyle. Students work on their fitness every session, which helps to reinforce the need for a healthy body and lifestyle.

Fundamental Motor Skills are taught specifically in Foundation to Year 2, and through a variety of sports in Years 3 to 6. These sports vary each term and may include football, basketball, volleyball soccer, netball, rugby, tennis, badminton, gymnastics and athletics. Students are assessed during the year through a standardised fitness test, teacher observations and student self-evaluations.

Specialist Coaching Sessions

Through the Sporting Schools Initiative, we are able to organise a variety of specialist coaching sessions for the students. These sessions are run by coaches from local community sporting groups and have covered sports such as:

  • soccer
  • basketball
  • volleyball
  • tennis
  • golf
  • rugby union

Students learn skills specific to these sports, game play and sportsmanship. These sessions also provide students with a sample of different sports that they may consider pursuing further outside school time.

School Events

At Maramba, we engage in the following school sporting events

  • Swimming Carnival
  • Cross-country
  • Athletics Day

At each event, the top finishers from Years 3 to 6 in their age group go on to district and potentially divisional representation where the children’s abilities are extended and matched against children from neighbouring schools. A community Twilight Sports Evening is held each year in the first term, which is held after school with students and families participating.

Interschool Sports

Students in Years 5 & 6 are involved in interschool sport activities each week during Term 2 and 4. A range of team sports are played with students playing for the same team and the same sport each term. The sports played are:

  • AFL
  • Soccer
  • T-ball
  • Dodge ball
  • Netball
  • Basketball
