AUSLAN

At Maramba Primary School, all students from Foundation to Year 6 participate in weekly Auslan (Australian Sign Language) lessons as part of our Languages Other Than English (LOTE) program.

Auslan is the native language of the Australian Deaf Community. It is a visual-spatial language with its own grammar and vocabulary, using signs, fingerspelling, facial expressions, and body movements to communicate.

By introducing Auslan at our school, we promote inclusion and connection. Learning Auslan helps students communicate with deaf and hard of hearing peers, reducing barriers and creating a more inclusive, empathetic community.

Deaf Acknowledgement

At Maramba Primary School, we acknowledge and respect the members of the Deaf Community in Australia, who preserve their rich heritage, culture and our language; Auslan (Australian Sign Language). We also acknowledge our custodians of Auslan, promoting awareness, equality and access through our sign language.

PERFORMING ARTS

At Maramba Primary School, the Performing Arts program encourages creativity, confidence, and self-expression through an engaging and inclusive curriculum. Students from Prep to Year 6 explore music, drama, dance, and movement in fun and meaningful ways, developing skills such as rhythm, coordination, vocal expression, improvisation, and storytelling.

Through learning to play instruments, acting, singing, and dancing, students are supported to take creative risks and express themselves authentically. Regular participation in school performances, concerts, and community events gives students the chance to showcase their talents, build teamwork and resilience, and take pride in their achievements.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION

At Maramba Primary School, Physical Education is a vibrant, inclusive program that supports every student’s growth in confidence, skills, and teamwork. Students engage in activities ranging from individual movement to competitive team sports, fostering a lifelong love of being active.

Our program builds physical literacy by developing fundamental motor skills (like running, jumping, throwing, and catching), physical fitness, motivation, understanding of movement, and social skills. Our goal is for all students to feel capable, successful, and excited about staying active now and in the future.

STEAM

Our STEAM lessons are provide hands-on and engaging learning experiences where students explore the world through investigations, experiments, discussions, reading, viewing, and creative tasks like diagrams, labelled models, descriptions, and role-plays. Each lesson fosters collaboration, curiosity, and critical thinking. The program makes authentic links across the curriculum by integrating Mathematics, Engineering, and the Arts, helping students see how scientific thinking applies in many areas.

As they progress, students develop skills to ask questions, make predictions, plan and conduct investigations safely, collect and analyse data, and communicate their findings effectively. Through active participation, students become curious, confident learners inspired to understand and shape the changing world around them.

VISUAL ARTS

At Maramba Primary School, our Visual Arts program inspires creativity and self-expression by encouraging students to explore their imagination and develop artistic skills. Through a range of experiences—such as drawing, painting, printmaking, collage, sculpture, and digital art—students experiment with different materials, techniques, and styles in a supportive environment.

Our on-site kiln allows students to explore ceramics and clay work, adding an exciting hands-on element to the program. By creating three-dimensional artworks and understanding the firing process, students bring their ideas to life in lasting forms. Their creations are proudly showcased in displays, exhibitions, and community events, fostering confidence, pride, and a strong sense of identity.
